One step above the Pro is the Elite, and on paper and in previous briefings, I thought it to not have much more capabilities than its sibling. The SpyderX itself is a colorimeter, so it theoretically should be able to do that with the right software/colour swatches. We’ve previously reviewed the DataColor Spyder4Pro, and we thought it to be good enough for the majority of creatives in the industry that declare themselves to at least by semi-professionals. I'm not super well-versed in calibration, but I have yet to find software (or a function of Displa圜al) that will let me fully calibrate a TV/Monitor using just the display's own settings, rather than calibrating how Windows displays colours to the monitor.

This means that while the PC will display calibrated colours while using that monitor/profile combo, anything else you hook up to your monitor that doesn't run Windows/OSX/Linux won't have that profile and therefore won't be "calibrated" beyond the basic whitepoint (R/G/B/brightness/contrast) levels being correct on the monitor. Basically, it automatically calibrates the operating system to display accurate colour on that particular monitor rather than helping you calibrate the monitor itself. Keep in mind that both the official software and Displaycal are only really useful for computers (though Displa圜al might be capable of more than I know, since it's fairly sophisticated.) If you want to calibrate your display for use with something other than a PC, you might need to keep looking.īasically out-of-the-box, the SpyderX will help you set an accurate white point on any screen (R/G/B levels and brightness/contrast) using the monitor's own settings, but all the fine 'swatch-based' colour calibration will be captured automatically and saved to an.

Protip: The official SpyderX software kind of sucks, but the device is compatible with Displaycal which is free and works much better.
